The article deals with not destroying method of control of the principal stress in defective areas of trunk pipelines. Its physical essence is based on the development of experimental relation between the volume of elementary crystal cell and radioisotope parameters. The offered method allows to reveal the most dangerous areas of pipelines which reliability is raised by means of shotblasting work hardening. The portable registering equipment with independent power supply allows to perform control in route conditions, during the scheduled pipeline repairs. The estimation of stress according to the depth of strengthened layer takes 5-6 minutes for one measurement.
