Energy Dissipation of a Semi-Toroidal Resonator
of a Solid-State Wave Gyroscope
in the Mounting Area |
B.S. LUNIN, M.A. BASARAB
This paper examines the effect of non-uniform mass distribution in the shell of a semi-toroidal resonator of a hemispherical wave
gyroscope on dissipation at its mounting location. As in a hemispherical resonator, a mass defect in the shell of a semi-toroidal resonator
generates forces and moments. Part of the oscillation energy is dissipated in the mounting area, reducing the resonator's Q factor and causing
systematic drift of the waveguide. When the semi-toroidal resonator is fl at mounted, the torque generated by the mass defect makes the largest
contribution to dissipation at the mounting location. Furthermore, the fl at connection between the semi-toroidal resonator and the base allows
for a significant reduction in losses in the coupling layer due to its thin thickness. It is shown that the wedge-shaped coupling layer does not
significantly affect the angular non-uniformity of losses in the semi-toroidal resonator mounting or the systematic drift of the wave pattern.
