Interturn Short-Circuit Fault Diagnosis
in the Stator of an Induction Motors
Using the Matrix Pencil Method |
V.A. EREMEEVA
The most common fault of an induction motor is an interturn short circuit in the stator winding. Motor diagnostic methods based on
current analysis in the frequency domain have low sensitivity to interturn short circuits. This article proposes a new highly sensitive method
for detecting interturn short circuit faults in motor stator windings. The sum of mutual differences in phase delays between the current and
supply voltage signals is proposed as an indicator of an interturn short circuit. Phase delays are measured using the matrix pencil method
(MPM), which is characterized by high accuracy and resistance to noise in the signals. The indicator is calculated on a signal section
0.05 seconds long at a sampling frequency of 2000 Hz, which allows diagnosing the motor in non-stationary operating modes. The
performance of the matrix pencil method was studied using model and experimental data from a 0.25 kW motor. The proposed indicator
makes it possible to unambiguously identify the serviceable and defective state of the motor at different load levels and power frequencies.
