The paper presents the results of a study of the operation of an NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) device with support for both the
NIDD (Non-IP Data Delivery) protocol and the IP (Internet Protocol) protocol. An experimental assessment and comparison of the effi ciency
of data transmission using the NIDD, UDP (User Datagram Protocol) and TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) protocols was carried out
under conditions of a constant signal level. An experimental assessment of the data transfer rate and other performance parameters of NB-IoT
devices was carried out when using the NIDD data transfer mode and the UDP, TCP protocols for various signal levels, and the minimum
acceptable RSRP level was assessed when using each of these protocols. The level of energy consumption of the device in various operating
modes was measured. An analytical assessment was made of the permissible capacity of the NB-IoT network per base station and the impact
of the traffi c model on QoS (Quality of Service). Based on the experimental data obtained, a conclusion was made about the feasibility of
preferential use of NIDD in NB-IoT networks.
