Selection of Sensors Type and Optimal Location for Monitoring the Technical Condition of Power Lines |

The problem of choosing the sensors type and their location for monitoring the technical condition of high-voltage power lines located at the intersection of wide rivers and reservoirs, as well as in mountainous areas is discussed. Mathematical models of power line wires oscillation in mutually perpendicular directions are considered. It is shown that the sensitivity of sensors to vibrations on the fundamental harmonic and overtones depends on the sensor location and there is no universal optimal installation location. Therefore, in especially critical sections of power transmission lines, it is desirable to have movable devices in the form of robots for monitoring the technical condition of power lines, which could monitor the technical condition of this section and should move along the entire length of the span and record the amplitudes and frequencies of the wire oscillations. To ensure freedom of movement, the robots will also need to have mechanisms to remove ice and frost deposits from the wires.
