Mechanized welding in protective gases with impulse (dosed) mode of electrode wire supply provides for the use of a high-speed computer complex for controlling the drive of the motor for feeding the electrode wire. In this case, it is necessary to have special sensors that determine the arc burning parameters, in particular, the welding current sensor. Developed in the Welding Institute E.O. Paton Ukraine National Academy of Sciences a new design of the welding current sensor is based on a comparison of the frequency of the voltage signal, taken from the welding arc, with the frequency of the voltage corresponding to the predetermined algorithm for the pulse operation of the drive mechanism of the electrode wire feeder. The welding current sensor is a magnetically controlled generator whose input is supplied with voltage pulses whose frequency is directly proportional to the strength of the welding current and the output includes an oscillating circuit that provides reverse positive current coupling. Operation of the sensor using high power signals ensures high noise immunity of the control system as a whole. The welding current sensor has been tested by approbation when welding joints of sheet-shaped structures in the lower and horizontal positions with self-shielded flux cored wire. In this case, due to the high stability of the parameters of the controlled pulsed feed of the flux-cored wire, for the first time it was possible to carry out the welding process, both with short closures of the arc gap and without them.
