Estimation of the accuracy of measuring the range to the Earth by a space lidar-gas analyzer using ground-based measurements |

The method of measuring the distance from the spacecraft to the Earth's surface by means of signals of lidar gasanalyzer-detector without involving any additional hardware for this purpose is described. The signals and apparatuses of lidar are optimized for determining the concentration of methane in the Earth's atmosphere. Experimental measurements taken on a horizontal track with signals with similar parameters to the signals received by the lidar in orbit, showed that the registration of delay of the reflected signal on the falling edge of
the pulse gives accuracy of the distance measurement which is sufficient for solution of some tasks for increasing the resolution of lidar to concentration measurements of gases in both horizontal and vertical planes.
