Industrial heating furnaces are non-linear high-power units. Their energy efficiency can be increased by means of adaptive control systems. Some of these systems are embedded in programmable logic controllers used in production. In particular, Siemens has integrated the adaptive system into the FB58 unit, which implements a PID controller for thermal processes. Calculating the parameters of the controller, it is necessary to determine the model of the control object using test signals. In this paper it is proposed to use the neural tuner of the PI controller, for which functioning such a model is not needed. The purpose of this study is to integrate the neural tuner into the Simatic controller and show its effectiveness in comparison with the FB58 block controller. In order to make experiments a heating furnace model is chosen. The obtained results show that both for the transient process and for compensation of the disturbances the use of the neural tuner allows to achieve more stable operation and to reduce the time and energy consumption by an average of 32 and 35% respectively.
