Application methods of the resistive type superconducting current limiters for power systems |

The issues concerning the application of superconducting current limiters for power systems were considered in this article. A review of existing methods of limiting short circuit currents in electrical networks was given and their shortcomings were identified. The basic types of superconducting current limiters, developed to date by various companies, were considered. The effectiveness of the superconducting current limiters for power systems is determined based on the impedance dependence from the current in these devices. An example of the short-circuit currents reduction on the heat power plant 2600 MW was given. The basic properties of the superconducting short circuit current limiter of resistive type were defined and the economic feasibility of these devices was indicated.
