Measuring Density of Drilling Fluid in Lightweight Pipe by Electromagnetic Waves |

The paper discusses principles for building up a unit for measuring density of drilling fluid on the basis of using characteristics of electromagnetic oscillations. The principles provides for determination of distance between the node and the antinode of a standing wave in the pipe section being measured and definition of self resonance frequency of the cylindrical resonator with the driiling fluid. Analytic relationships between material density and standing-wave length and resonance frequency of the cylindrical resonator are demonstrated with account of the permittivity of the fluid. A technique for estimation of the dominant wave in the pipe sections being measured is given. Recommendations on extension of the linear relationship between the information parameter and the density and exception of impact of mud accumulation at the pipe walls on measurement result are proposed.
