Detection of signal on the noise background with the use of the characteristic function |

The theory of statistical solutions is supplemented with new elements of the theory of probability in the form of Lyapunov’s characteristic function for solving problems of detecting a deterministic signal against a noise background. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results of the solved classical problem is made, and then a comparison with known data. It is established that the use of the characteristic function increases the reliability of detecting the signal against the background of noise by four or more times, and the noise immunity of the signal discriminating unit is three times for a signal-to-noise ratio less than unity. The conclusions will be useful in the design of devices for working with noise-like signals, as well as control and monitoring systems located in the zone of intentional noise, noise storms and attacks.
