Creating a nanostructured surface of bismuth single crystals by dry etching |
O.I. MARKOV, YU. V. KHRIPUNOV
The paper is devoted to control surface state of a bismuth’s single crystal after exposure to atomic hydrogen. Surface studies were carried out by atomic force microscopy. Treatment of the surface atomic hydrogen leads to the appearance on the surface of bismuth’s single crystals in the form of an ensemble nanoledges polyhedra (and their conglomerates) with a triangular base, faceted crystal faces. A detailed study of these structures leads to the following conclusions. The interaction of atomic hydrogen with a crystal of bismuth leads to modify the properties of the surface and subsurface layers. We found that the surface of a bismuth’s single crystal actively interacts with atomic hydrogen, there is a change of surface topography of a single crystal of bismuth. We established selective spraying the surface of the crystal of bismuth. We found that the surface modification process depends on the duration of treatment. The formation of a self-organizing system of monocrystalline nanoledges is caused by the dislocation structure of the original surface of a bismuth’s single crystal.
