The air flow control by ultrasonic doppler backscattering |

The article proposes a system for remote ultrasonic control of air flow. Doppler spectra of backscattered ultrasound signal on the turbulent fluctuations are used to estimate the flow parameters. The methodology of experimental measurements and signal processing, the functional scheme of the ultrasonic device, the results of the approximate mathematical modeling of the Doppler ultrasonic scattering in the flow are described. The results of experimental measurements and approximate model calculations are in agreement. To estimate the flow parameters it is necessary to analyze both the average frequency of Doppler shift and width (form) of the Doppler spectrum of the ultrasonic signal. It is shown that the registration of scattered ultrasonic signals by the sensor system gives the possibility to evaluate the heterogeneity of the flow.
